It Was Like Ferris Bueller's Day Off.

Yesterday we once again woke up to grey rainy skies.  Knowing I would fall into a deep hole of despair if I didn't get out of the house, I decided to try to find one or two new places to visit every week starting with  coffee shops not located downtown. Waking Life is the top rated shop in Asheville, all they do is coffee, and just 10 minutes outside of downtown, so after lunch we drove the short distance there.

My macchiato.

While sipping our coffee the sun made an appearance waylaying our plans to go home. Instead we went to a resale shop where a friends of Megan's works.  She wasn't working so we looked around a bit then left, planning to stop by the Biltmore Estate to pick up a jigsaw puzzle.

Absent from the estate was the throng of tourist usually present, so we walked around enjoying the wide open pathways, fragrance free air, and glorious weather.

After walking  for a couple of hours, we headed to the winery to refresh ourselves with free wine tasting. No sooner had we pulled in the parking lot than Brewier called saying he was home, so we waited for him to come and join us.

After sampling more than a few wines, we walked the gift shop, and Brewier rode the bronze dog in Antler Village.

After leaving the Biltmore we went to Lexington Ave Brewery in downtown Asheville, (which too was happily absent of tourists.) I'd been wanting Brewier to try the most awesome homemade pretzels there. I'm so glad we only ordered pretzels and not also dinner like we had planned, because the pretzels are huge and filled us up.

Plans were to walk around downtown for awhile then go to the French Broad Chocolate Lounge, for dessert. As we were walking we heard music, and followed it to Pritchard Park, and found a crowd of people hula hooping. We found out this happens every Tuesday evening all summer long.

Oliver was keen to join in and grabbed a hoop. Having never done this before, I was very impressed with his  attempts. (Boy does that ever sound like something a grandmother would say.)

Even Brewier joined in.

It was SO.  Much. Fun. Yes, we will be there again next week.
