You've Gotta Love My Mom

Scene: Mom is driving Meg and I to the Syrian bakery. We are sitting in traffic surrounded by people who DON"T KNOW HOW TO DRIVE. I'm getting irked and when I'm irked I say things to the other drivers. Its harmless, because they can't hear me.

Me to the car in front of us who won't pass and go around a parked garbage truck: " Come on, just get in the other lane and drive around the truck!"

Mom: "Tricia, just relax. You know, you should move to California and smoke some pot."

EDIT: I wasn't yelling. I don't yell at the other drivers, I talk to them...sometimes I even answer back for them.

I knew I wasn't the only driver out there like that!
Congrats on being featured at SITS.

How old is your mom? Cause my mom would never say something like that, now if she was born about 6 years later, she might of.

Your mom thinks you were yelling like a lunatic, apparently! LOL

Katy said...

I do the SAME THING... but my mom would NEVER say that! :-)

Heather said...

Well, your mom is definitely more hip-n-groovy than my own, as she would NEVER suggest such a thing, LOL!

Enjoy your SITS day! Cheers!

Oh my, I would have probably taken her up on it.

Me too! I don't have road rage, I have road sarcasm.

I think our mom's would definitely get along!

i have a very colorful mouth when I'm driving. my seven year old constantly reminds me that i need to clean up my act. where's that embarrassed smilie when you need one?

Move to California and smoke some pot? Good advice for ANY situation in life.

Just kidding. ;)

Feliz said...

I do the same thing! I am pretty sure that my mom wouldn't give me practical advice like yours did, though!

Angela said...

Now that's something you don't hear from mothers very much!

Have fun today! Glad to find your blog.

That is awesome. What a great mom.
Happy SITS day. Its the best day ever.

That is so funny--my mom used to say things that came way out of left field every now and then, and I still remember how they cracked me up. Happy SITS day!

Amy said...

HA! I do the same thing, but I think I yell. :D

EmBee said...

Um, I have to admit I do the same thing, talk & answer for the other driver... But there's a lot more, shall we say, 'heated discussion', when I do it.

Wow. I mean, wow. That's something I would have thought I'd only hear Diane Keaton say.

You mom is hilarious. She must have smoked her fare share of the wacky weed in her day because my mother would NEVER say such a thing. COOL.

I do that all the time too! My kids just look at me like I'm crazy. I think I may be.

I talk to the drivers too. I also use jibberish in place of swear words so as not to offend the children. Ex. "Why is that muddle trucker in the fast lane if he's going to drive under the fudging speed limit." I suppose I could use a trip to the west coast myself. Your mom is hilarious.

Ronnica said...

I'm not sure that moving to California would help you with the stressful driving thing...

HAPPY SITS DAY!!!

Your mother must be a hoot. Sounds like something I'd say, but I'd only be joking.

Lori said...

lol! Would your mom freak out if she knew they have pot outside of California now? :)

Oh my gosh...CLASSIC comment by mom! I love it!

And you and my hubby would get along famously. I once caught him giving someone "the bird" totally OUT OF SIGHT AND UNDER THE DASHBOARD. And no he hasn't done that EVER again (in front of me), cuz I had a few things to say about it. He's a good guy...I swear!

And lol at "road sarcasm"! I *love* it. I'm gonna suggest that to my hubbs.

Andie said...

Glad to know I'm not the only one that makes those kinds of comments. LOL And yea Mom!

Your mom's a riot!

I totally talk to other drivers also. I don't use bad language or yell, but I have to talk.

Shannon said...

I can see my aunt saying something like this... but not my mom!

Congrats on your SITS day!

So the Californians are high??? I KNEW it!!

Jen said...

No I see why you are scaring the "hell" out of Megan!

Tiffany said...

California is the last place you want to move if you have kind of road rage...

Trust me!

We do however, seem to have pot everywhere.

PhatMom said...

Your mom has a point. There is no road rage in Cali...they are waaaaayyy more laid back over there. ;)

Wep said...

Nice. I love when parents get older. They should have a show called Geriatrics Say the Darndest Things.

Melanie said...

That's hilarious. Parents are so honest when you get older.

Karen said...

I'm a fairly calm driver. Don't do much in the way of muttering or anything like that.

I also don't drive very often over here, as the steering wheel is on the opposite side to what I'm used too :-)

Your mother sounds like she has a great sense of humour :-)

SuburbanCorrespondent said...

I do that constantly - it drives my teen daughter crazy.

greedygrace said...

Oh, yeah! One of the many reasons I love living in California!

Congrats on the SITS feature!

Michelle said...

Now that's an interesting theory for a mom to espouse. I just can't picture my Donna Reed mother saying ANYthing like that though!

Lisa@BlessedwithGrace said...

Hee hee hee. Thank is funny. I can't imagine my mother ever saying anything remotely like this. BTW, forgot to say congrats on being Saucy.

Rhonda said...

Good for you on the talking to other drivers thing.

I do yell.

Loudly.

And sign.

Because not only are they totally stupid, but they are deaf too.

mrsmouthy said...

I believe you meant to say, "Just move to OREGON and smoke some pot." :)

mrsmouthy said...

Oops, please correct pronoun in my above comment! (you=she)

Hillary said...

THAT is hilarious!!

AFRo said...

ROFLMAO. My mother would never!!! But I often wish she would just "get with it" a little more. This is really funny.
